thrift stores

I have developed a renewed love for thrift store shopping.  A friend and I recently raided a thriftstore and bought 20 massive men's tshirts to make t-shirt scarves out of.  I May post more about that adventure at some point.
I randomly found this fun website today when I was looking for something about McDonalds.  Like  I said, random.
Anyways... I got sucked in reading her blog.

Dana, we have to go again sometime. :-)

This is the picture that pulled me in, isn't it pretty?  I'd love to recreate this photograph, maybe with a longer skirt.

  1. I don't know. My feelings are mixed. I like a bargain and don't spend alot on clothes. We pass anything good on to salvation army when we know we won't use it anymore, but I like to think that our donations fill someones need, not their greed...that gal (wrinkled$) is obviously motivated by something other than a need for something to wear. Is there a fat man with no shirt on now so you and your friend could make scarves? Now everytime I see a fat man with no shirt I'm going to think of Anna. Thats not good.

  2. Oh Stan! We wouldn't have survived without Nearly New when the kids were growing up. And, we were able to get the brands there that we never could have afforded, as well as things we couldn't buy in stores, i.e. the kids had to meet a dress code for school with no skirts or dresses above-the-knee. Since it was even more expensive to sew, Nearly New it was. I would even buy certain clothing just for the buttons! Those are good habits I'm thankful my children learned: Not to be too proud to wear hand-me-downs, to be resourceful, and to be thrifty with their dollars. AND to donate their own hand-me-downs-- including the Nearly New items that were still good! So next time you see a fat man with no shirt, send him to the thrift store to buy a REAL shirt-- T-shirts just make fat guys look slobby anyway! If you hadn't been the spoiled baby, you would have been the recipient of plenty of rummage sale and white elephant clothing! I still have the photo of the holey underwear you got as a gift from Gramma K! Hehe!

  3. Oh fun!
Yes, the thrift shopping has saved us tons of $'s, and I don't feel so guilty about spending money on clothes.
Lots more bang for your buck.
I think I may have got Brit hooked on it too ;)

  5. I didn't miss out on hand me downs, my jeans are still mostly hand me downs from Fred's boys, and my work clothes are $1 shirts and $2 pants from the airforce (they last forever too) My last pair of new cowboy boots was,I don't know but back when I was single (I'm lucky to have a foot size that will take ladies boots and that boys tend to outgrow quickly). My cover-alls come from the same place as my work cloths. The girls get alot of stuff either hand-me-down, or at Value Village, just like Dana says it is a good bang for the buck! Dolores trades scrubs at work and on E-bay. I'm just teasing Anna about the topless fat man! Still, there's folks that make a career out of grabbing up the good stuff at the Salvation Army and re-selling(different I think than re-selling garage sale, auction sale, rummage sale finds) and there are others who just never have enough stuff, I'm not sure I like that, and I'm not too sure where the wrinkled dollar gal fits!
